Abstract: In the article the problems of development of agrarian territories of Russia are formulated. It is hypothesized that agrotourism can become a driver of human capital formation, an impetus to increase the development ofrural areas, providing conditions for the development of agro-industrial complex, and for the expansion of markets forproducts and services of producers in rural areas. Existing approaches to the formation of the conceptual apparatus,are studied, and the author's definition of agrotourism is explored. Directions for creating a tourist product using theterm "agrotourism" are defined. It is concluded that the study of tourism in the Russian Federation is at an initialstage of its development. The spectrum of the reasons promoting development of agrotourism and increase of demandfor it from domestic tourists are characterized.
